Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination starts even before birth,in the form of gender tests..

In the olden days there was no way of finding out the gender of a child,so people just had to wait until birth of the child.
But now, with the introduction of newer tecnologies like ultrasound scan,ct scan etc..its become very easy to determine the gender of the child even before birth, therefore if the tests say that the unborn child is a girl, then the parents can get rid of the child even before it is born. Thus many girls were killed even before they were born. Therefore,The government of India passed a law to prevent this..

According to de law, now, its illegal to find out the sex of a child before its born, but even now, many persons(including unscrupulous doctors) continue to find out the sex before birth as well as do unsafe abortions to kill these innocent girls and sometimes ,the mothers too,if the abortion was not safe.

There are so many atrocities after birth too,in some places, the neonates are killed as soon as it is known that it is a girl whereas in some others, the girls are sold off because the parents cant afford to take care of another girl child..these girls are bought by unscrupulous persons and later indulged in sex trade or organ trade!
In some places little infants were starved to death because they cannot be sold off!!
the children are left off outside, and are not given food until they die, because, the law forbids people from killing!!
Girls in many places are not allowed to study,
In Indian culture,it is believed that, boys will extend the familt name whereas,a girl is considered as just a burden to be married off with a hefty dowry. If a girl child is born, the mother is held responsible for the gender, and in many cases,if a boy is not born, the husband is made to marry another woman with hopes that the new wife will give birth to a male child!!
This is an absolutely wrong way of thinking,as the gender of a child is not determined by its mother but by the father...When a spern containing x-chromosome fertilises the ovum,a female child is born, whereas when a sperm having y-chromosome fertilises the ovum a male child is born.
The sex ratio according to the 2001 census is 933:1000.that means for every 1000 boys, there are only 933 girls..ideally there should be 1000 girls for 1000 boys,i.e an equal distribution, but because of the above mentioned practices, there is a skewered ratio, which will ultimately lead to an unbalanced society,in future...
It is therefore important to educate people,as well as follow what we learn to prevent such occurances..
